Job Summary
Are you ready to inspire the next generation of “STEM Explorers”? Baton Rouge STEM is seeking dedicated and high-energy Camp Counselors to lead our summer programs. In this role, you aren’t just a supervisor—you are an educator, a mentor, and a project leader. You will play a key role in shaping our students’ summer experience by leading them through hands-on projects that prove STEM is Life.
Key Responsibilities
- Instruction & Facilitation: Guide and teach a wide range of academic and recreational activities, including coding, robotics, engineering prototypes, math challenges, and science projects.
- Activity Planning: Collaborate with the Camp Director and fellow counselors to create and execute engaging academic and recreational plans.
- Explorer Safety: Ensure the physical and emotional safety of all “STEM Explorers” at all times; monitor activities closely to prevent accidents.
- Daily Operations: Instruct Explorers in daily routines, supervise meal times, and lead students in cleanup tasks to maintain a professional learning environment.
- Equipment Management: Set up daily project stations and ensure all STEM equipment (robotics kits, lab tools, etc.) is secure and stored properly at the end of each day.
- Leadership: Serve as a positive role model, fostering a fun-filled, inclusive, and high-energy camp culture.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: Previous experience working with children in a camp, school, or coaching environment is highly preferred.
- Skills: Strong communication skills and the ability to explain “how things work” to elementary and middle school students.
- STEM Interest: A foundational understanding of or a strong willingness to learn basic coding, robotics, and engineering concepts.
- Attributes: High energy, patience, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team of counselors.
- Reliability: Consistent attendance is a must to ensure the continuity of the Explorers’ experience.

At BRSTEM, we value the growth of our staff as much as our students. Camp Counselors will be held accountable by the Director regarding their performance and professional development, receiving regular feedback and coaching to enhance their leadership and instructional skills.
