
Camp Counselor Job Description
Position Summary
A Baton Rouge STEM Camp Counselor will be held accountable by the Director regarding their performance and development. Camp Counselors will play a key role in shaping and educating our BRSTEM Fellows by instructing them on a numerous STEM activities and experiences. Counselors will also collaborate with camp director and other counselors, create academic and recreational plans and activities, and lead fellows in fun-filled projects.
Camp Counselor Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and oversee fellows’ activities
- Guide and teach a range of academic and recreational activities (coding, robotics, engineering prototype, math, science projects etc.)
- Ensure fellows safety and monitor their activities
- Set up and ensure equipment is secure and stored properly
- Supervise fellows during meals
- Instruct fellows in daily routines and cleanup tasks
- Follow safety and emergency procedures and guidelines
- Work one-on-one with fellows
- Instruct and organize projects (STEM, crafts, experiments, etc.)
- May perform administrative tasks (filing, record keeping, etc.) as needed
Camp Counselor Requirements and Qualifications
- High school degree or equivalent; Associate’s degree, or two (2) years or more of full-time college coursework equivalent preferred
- First aid and CPR training and certification preferred
- Previous experience as a counselor-in-training, teacher, childcare, or related field
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
