Even before our official fall programming kicked off, we’ve had the pleasure of visiting three of our partner schools to begin our “Grow Your Own Food” initiative for the new school year. These early visits are a powerful way to get students hands-on with science and agriculture from day one.

Our recent stops included Claiborne Elementary, Dufrocq Elementary, and East Feliciana STEAM Academy. During these visits, we hosted interactive workshops and delivered some very special new residents to each campus. Students were excited to welcome new baby chicks and receive a variety of vegetable plants for their school gardens.

The highlight of the day was at East Feliciana, where the students were thrilled to meet their newest classmate—a baby goat! These living components of our program are designed to help students learn about food sources in a fun and engaging way.

Our “Grow Your Own Food” series is an important part of our mission to bring STEM to life for young people in our community. By nurturing plants and caring for animals, students are getting a hands-on look at biology, ecology, and responsibility.

You can support our work by supporing any of our partner school gardens through donations (material and supplies such as seeds, chicken feed, paint or soil are just a few things that are needed) or taking on the title sponsorship for the garden to ensure the gardens have all the resources needed for an entire school year.
